Update 1/24/22
Our fundraiser is finally over. We raised $4090!!! Incredible. We couldn’t have done it without you. This is simply overwhelming and amazing. We will make sure that the money gets used well.
Today all donors will be receiving an email of thanks. For the few who sent it to me via Venmo so I have no collection of their email address, I’ll be sending them this update! :) Here is the email -
Krystal here. Whether you know me personally or not, I can tell we are a lot alike. We both care a lot about others and I'm glad we were able to do this as a joint effort for families who were affected by the Super Typhoon in Negros Occidental, Philippines last month. Many families are still rebuilding and will be rebuilding for months, maybe even years to come. Your donation is helping them to not have to worry about finding clean water or food for that week, so they can focus on other essential tasks such as finding ways to fix their roofing, get their walls back in place, get trees removed, and take care of their families in general.
It's kind of crazy to think that $4 can help a family with water for almost a week, or that a $4 sack of rice can feed a family for 10 meals, but that's exactly what it does. For another perspective, a day's worth of work at minimum wage in this area of the Philippines is 395php, which is equivalent to about $7.70, so while $4 may not seem like much to us, $4 means half of a hard day's work out in the humid sun for a lot of natives in this area. So thank you for your donations because they really go a long way
Here is a quick and transparent update on our relief project:
Of the $4090.00, we got to keep $3858.53. This is a screenshot of what it shows me on PayPal:
We have $2905.54 left to spend and have spent a total of 48,446.75php ($944.06 USD) after having delivered 101 bottles, 680 kilos of rice, 160 cans of sardines, and 160 cans of corned beef, reaching approximately 300 or so families in 5 different towns. Because our water team in Bacolod is in quarantine, we've had to put water deliveries to Ilog, Kabankalan, and Sipalay on hold. In the meantime efforts continue and my parents' team in Himamaylan is putting together our next water deliveries in their area. Since the container is the most expensive part ($3), we made a point in our last delivery to make sure we marked the containers in hopes that families would return them. Well, 60 of 80 came back so we are doing a refill for those at 30¢ each!! This means that a $4 donation pays for 10 containers rather than 1! My parents just purchased 100 more containers and are in the process of spray painting the side of those before they get filled up with water in hopes that these ones will also be returned to be refilled. The next delivery (100 new containers + 60 refilled) will cost us ~$418 USD. My parents will send me a receipt and I'll reimburse them. Super exciting stuff.
For more updates on past/current deliveries and spendings, go to Clean Water Updates as I am doing my best to do at least one to two updates per week. You can also subscribe to our email newsletters here.
Anyway, I won't take much more of your time, I really just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. The 30-day fundraiser is finally over and has yielded much more than we expected. It was honestly a bit overwhelming! We only really wanted to raise $1,000 but to get 4x that amount is incredible! I've actually seen or spoken to some of you recently and completely failed to say thank you in person and for this I apologize. Now that we've had a moment to reflect and see that almost 80 of you had donated your hard earned money to help others, it truly is amazing to know that there really are people out there that care so much. Sometimes it's hard to see the good in humanity, but all it takes is seeing that people really want to help. So thank you for your help because we are making a difference for so many lives. And also, thank you for trusting me with your funds because I personally know how important transparency is
This really has been a major labor of love and we couldn't do any of this without your help. You are amazing. Thank you x a billion.
Stay safe out there.
With lots of gratitude,
Krystal Moon
